「無知の知」
日本を代表する音楽家・坂本龍一とアメリカ在住のラッパー・shing02が中心となって始めたプロジェクト「stop-rokkasho」。青森県六ヶ所村に在る再処理工場の甚大な放射能汚染に対するその活動のWebサイトでは、 世界中のアーティスト達が放射能の恐ろしさを訴えるために様々な作品を無償で公開している。初めてそのサイトを見た時、
こんなにも世界では放射能への関心が高かったのか！と驚いたのを覚えている。
僕自身、｢無知の知｣を書くまで放射能に対しての知識はほぼ皆無だった。沖縄に原子力発電所はまだ無いし、沖縄から青森は遠い。だが、インターネットで
ちょっと調べれば、放射能の恐ろしさはすぐに判った。一度、事故が起きてしまえば、取り返しのつかない事態になり、日本のみならず、世界中にまでその被害
は影響する。そして、その被害は事故が起きていない今も海や食べ物を伝い、確実に広がっている。
東京で、青森在住で海産物業に従事する人と話をした時、
この問題が沖縄の基地問題と酷似している部分が多いと感じた。再処理工場や原子力発電所が危険だと判っていても、
働き口が無いためにそこで働かざるを負えない地元の状況。計画に反対することは、彼等の収入源を奪うことにも繋がり、
それぞれの生活に直接響くデリケートな問題は、沖縄の基地問題がそうであるように、友達同士であっても口に出すのが難儀な状況であることは容易に想像出来
た。だが、働き口の少なさや、様々な事情からそこで働かざるを得ない地元の人々を前にして、僕等は部外者だからと口を閉ざしてしまうだけで、良いのだろう
か。節電や省エネはもちろん、 遠い地に住む僕等に与えられた役割の一つは、この問題を話題にし、風化させないようにすることであると僕は思う。
さて、今、僕等の生活は一体どんな結末に向かっているのだろう。一人一人の一日一日がやがて来る未来を創る。何気ない今日が、未来をどう変えて行くのかを、まずは知ることから始めよう。
