How To Fight Colds and The Flu with Baking Soda

Baking Soda, also known as Sodium Bicarbonate, is derived from a natural occurring mineral and is one of the safest substances around.  Since baking soda is extremely alkaline it will alkalize the entire system, reducing acidosis systemically.

It works to balance your body’s pH levels by neutralizing any acidity. This helps maintain the pH balance in your bloodstream.  In, “Arm & Hammer Baking Soda Medical Uses,” published in 1924, Dr. Volney S. Cheney recounts his clinical successes with sodium bicarbonate in treating colds and flu cases:

“In 1918 and 1919 while fighting the ‘flu’ with the U. S. Public Health Service it was brought to my attention that rarely anyone who had been thoroughly alkalinized with bicarbonate of soda contracted the disease, and those who did contract it, if alkalinized early, would invariably have mild attacks.  I have since that time treated all cases of ‘cold,’ influenza and LaGripe by first giving generous doses of bicarbonate of soda, and in many, many instances within 36 hours the symptoms would have entirely abated.  Further, within my own household, before Woman’s Clubs and Parent-Teachers’ Associations, I have advocated the use of bicarbonate of soda as a preventive for ‘colds,’ with the result that now many reports are coming in stating that those who took ‘soda’ were not affected, while nearly everyone around them had the ‘flu.’

Cheney also stated that those who took daily doses of baking soda on his advisement reported that they were among the few that didn’t get the flu when it rampaged through their schools.

How to Fight Colds and The Flu with Baking Soda

In 1922, people knew about this inexpensive way to avoid colds and flu but it’s been forgotten by our modern society.

The method is very easy and safe.  You just need to dissolve the recommended amount of baking soda in a glass of cold water and drink it.  This is the method documented by the Arm & Hammer Company for colds and influenza back in 1925.

Day one: Take a total of six doses of half a teaspoon of baking soda in one cup of water. Take at two hour intervals.

Day two: Take a total of six doses of half a teaspoon of baking soda in one cup of water. Take at two hour intervals.

Day three:  Take only two doses — one in the morning and another at night.
Continue taking one dose in the morning until illness is cured.
